Chittorgarh is the fort (garh in Hindi) of Chittor (in Rajasthan). Worth to explore, the place is punctuated with beautiful stone buildings and relics of history. Surrounded by more than 150 cliffs, Chittorgarh is symbolic of bravery, patriotism, romanticism, valor and tragedy. It holds great historic importance for the Rajputs. You can explore the bygone era of chivalry, in this small town and in the remains of Chittorgarh Fort. Also, the Rana Kumbha Palace is a must visit. It is in one of the cellars of this palace where Rani Padmini performed jauhar. Jauhar was an act of burning oneself into death, practiced by Rajput Queens to avoid dishonor by invaders or enemy after wars. A relaxed walk down the galleries of Padmini Palace is worth the effort & time. Chittorgarh celebrate the very famous Rajput festival "Jauhar Mela", annually. Besides its historic relics, this place is also a shopper’s delight ona India day tour to the city. Local bazaars sell various handmade metal artifacts, tie-dye fabrics, famous Thewa jewelry, leather products and other handmade knick-knacks.
