Overview
Settled on the banks of the Cauvery, Trichy or Tiruchapelli is Tamil Nadu’s fourth largest city. This great city has witnessed the historical heights of the Chola, Pandya and Pallava rule. An admirable amalgam of the old world and modernity, Trichy has a heady mix of churches, temples and forts each with its own glorious history. The Rock Fort is an impressive structure that towers over the city landscape in an otherwise flat surface of the city. You will find the Ucchi Pillayar Koil Temple, the Mathrubutheswarar Temple and the Jambukeswar Temple on the upward climb. The Grand Anicut Dam across the Cauvery is a 2nd Century structure. The Gangaikondam Cholapuram, dedicated to the victory of the Chola King is a stunning sight. In line with Trichy’s tradition of woodcraft, metallurgy and weaving, tourists can pick from a variety of handcrafted and woven items like baskets, mats, metal ware etc on a India day tour to Trichy.
How to visit:
By road: The city is well connected by road with important places and south Indian cities. The distance of the different towns are Chennai (316 Kms), Chidambarm (173 Kms), Coimbatore (204 Kms), Tanjore (60 Kms), Darasuram (83 Kms), Madurai (142 Kms), Kumbakonam (98 Kms), Mahabalipuram (354 Kms), Ooty (302 Kms), Pondicherry (243 Kms) and Gangaikondacholapuram (133 Kms).
By rail: Trichy (TPJ) railway station is an important station on the Southern Railway. It is connected with Chennai, Chidambaram, Madurai, Coimbatore, Tirupati, Rameshwaram, Bangalore, Mysore, Kochi, Kanyakumari and Mangalore.
By air: Trichy airport (TRZ) is located at a distance of 5 Kms from the city. The airport is connected with Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Sharjah, Kuwait and Colombo.
