Overview

Pushkar in Rajasthan, a pocket sized town revered and important as a pilgrim site nonetheless, is a town that never sleeps. Pushkar is identifiable for its beautiful lake and also has the distinction of having the only temple dedicated to Lord Brahma, the creator, in India. Thousands of devotees throng the temple by day time and equally large numbers of foreign tourists throng the cafes of Pushkar, day and night. Surprisingly it has a night life that is hidden to the pilgrim crowd. The tour begins with a visit to the Brahma temple and ends with a visit to the Ghats. Take a walk through its labyrinth roads and by lanes and you will find shops selling shirts, bags, paintings, silver jewelry, smoking pipes and homemade cakes! The town that shuts down to the chanting of the evening aarti, wakes up in mid-night in its many cafes that dole out delectable delights with trance music playing up in the background. This quirky little town host the largest cattle fair in November, which draws local & foreign tourists alike. A quick trip to nearby Ajmer Sharif Dargah cannot be missed.

How to visit:

By road: Pushkar is connected by buses to Ajmer. Buses from Jaipur start for Ajmer at a gap of every fifteen minutes and reaches Ajmer after two hours. Jeeps and taxis, though a bit costly, are also available.

By rail: Ajmer Junction (AII) is the nearest railway station for Pushkar at a distance of 14 kms. Trains are connected to and from Ajmer to other major destinations.

By air: The nearest airport is at Jaipur Sanganer airport (JAI) at a distance of 145 kms. Flights from Jaipur fly to other major cities.
