Overview

Its dense forest and grassy meadows was the influence for Rudyard Kipling to write "Jungle Book". The most fascinating part of this zone are the vast grassy meadows, with chital, sambhar, swamp deer and blackbuck grazing around is a pleasurable sight. The real thrill of the place is when you suddenly came across a tiger enjoying its wilderness & natural habitat. This is Kanha National Park, India’s one of most visited Tiger reserves. Located in the Mandla - Madhya Pradesh, this National Park cum Tiger Reserve covers more than 1,940-sq-kms. The interesting topography and the horseshoe shape valley offer breathtaking views. One can spot tiger, sambhar, bison, barasingha, chital, black deer, barking deer, black buck, nilgai, sloth bear, jackals, porcupine, python, hare etc. Birds like storks, spotted parakeets, teals, hoopoes, pintails, kingfishers, pond herons, woodpeckers, egrets, peacock, partridges, quails, orioles, owls, and more can be seen. The place has decent accommodation options and great safaris to be experienced.

How to visit:

By road: Daily bus service available for Kisli and Mukki from Jabalpur and back. Taxis are available for hire from Jabalpur, Bilaspur and Raipur. Vehicles are not permitted within the park after dark.

By rail: The trains from most of the meto cities are connected to Jabalpur (JBP) and Bilaspur (BSP)

By air: Nearest airport to Kanha is at Jabalpur JLR, which is 156 km. and connected with regular flights from Delhi & Bhopal.
