Overview

Bharatpur is more known for its Keoladeo Ghana National Park, otherwise known as Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary. This wetland and bird sanctuary is a famous avifauna sanctuary which plays host to large number of migratory birds like Pelicans, Geese, Eagles, Hawks, Stints, Wagtails, Shanks, Wheatears, Warblers, Flycatchers, Ducks, Buntings, Cranes, Larks and Pipits in winters. There are more than 230 species of water- birds and waterside birds which have made this World Heritage Site their home. Animals such as Sambar, Chital, Nilgai and Boar can also be sighted here. The National Park is around 3kms to the south of Bharatpur town. The place has decent accommodation facilities including private hotels, forest guest houses and tourism department hotels. Besides the National Park, Bharatpur Government Museum, Deeg Palace, Bharatpur Palace and Lohagarh Fort do worth a visit on a India day tour to the city.

By road: Bharatpur is well connected with roads to other major touristic destinations, like Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur etc. Many public transport and private tour operators provides the transport facility.

By rail: Bharatpur has its own train station Bharatpur Junction (BTE), which is well connected to the major cities.

By air: Nearest airport is Kheria Airport (AGR) in Agra at a distance of 53 kms. Limited flights options are available on the selected days.
